Foreign News: Returning Hero

The man who struck the first U.S. blow against Germany (Minister to Bulgaria George Howard Earle, whose weapon was a bottle in the face of a German) arrived in Istanbul last week, en route home with his staff.

Smuggled from Sofia by nervous Bulgar officials following reports of a Nazi plot to create an "incident," two-fisted George Earle declared: "German fortunes are definitely declining, but the death throes may be unprecedentedly violent."
