The NBC Symphony, most costly and prestigious orchestra of the U.S. air waves, last week got a successor to "The Old Man1' Arturo Toscaniniwho for four seasons had larruped great music out of it. The successor, as had been rumored (TIME, May 26), is petulant, platinum-blond Leopold Stokowski, also an old hand at symphonic larruping. But Stokowski is signed for only eight of the season's 28 NBC concerts.
