MARINES: Webfooted Name

For two months the U.S. has had a special task force made up of marines, soldiers, sailors, trained for a quick and powerful sally into any trouble that develops on the Atlantic side of the continent. Complete down to transports and an air wing and commanded by the Marines' Major General Holland M.

("Howlin' Mad") Smith, the force had everything but a name.

Last week it was christened—reputedly by Admiral Ernest Joseph King, commander of the Atlantic Fleet. Admiral King's webfooted selection: the Atlantic Amphibious Force.
