British voters in West Leeds, Yorkshire, have lost a lot of faith in the
Labor Party; but a majority are still doubtful whether the Tories offer
anything better. In a by-election last week, Labor won the
parliamentary seat by a margin greatly reduced from the 1945 general
election vote. It was Labor's 51st by-election victory since 1945.
