RUSSIA: In the Sweet Bye & Bye

In the Soviet Union one of the toughest jobs that faces the Communist Party's Agitation and Propaganda section is to keep the people enthusiastic about Five-Year Plans. From Russia came an anecdote which showed how it went:

Addressing a meeting, an Agitprop worker said: "Comrades, this Five-Year Plan will bring to each of you a new house. The next Five-Year Plan will bring to each of you a new car. And the next Five-Year Plan after that will bring to each of you a new airplane."

A worker raised his hand and said: "Comrade, what shall we do with these airplanes?...
