On the Scoreboard it looked good: it was 14-14, going into the last quarter. But New York's pro football Giants just didn't have a backfield to their name:

¶ Fullback Bill Paschal was out with a week-old broken jaw.

¶ Fullback Merle Hapes was ruled out of the game while cops investigated a Broadway gambler. The gambler had tried to bribe Hapes and a fellow Giant to throw the game for $7,000.
