Medicine: Diabetes Up

Two statisticians of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., whose business it is to guess right about people's health, came to some discouraging conclusions about diabetes:

¶ In the present decade (1940-1950), the rate of increase in U.S. diabetics will be double the rate of population growth.

¶ Of U.S. citizens under 50, over 4% of the women and 2% of the men can expect to become diabetics some time during their lives.
