FARMERS: Low Point

In five years (the Department of Agriculture reported last week) U.S. farm and food production had increased 35%. But the U.S. farm population as of Jan. 1 was 25,190,000; since 1940, more than 5,000,000 had left the farms for the city or the armed services. The U.S. farm population was the Iowest it had been in 35 years.
