Germans at home had their own summary of the Christmas situation:
"Poor me! At Christmas brothers are at the front, sisters in factories,
mother is a member of the searchlight crew, father is in the People's
Army, grandfather is in home defense, Santa Claus is bombed out and
Baby Jesus is evacuated."
