The Press: What Readers Read

Since 1939, the Advertising Research Foundation has polled readers of 73 U.S. newspapers, asking about every single story and ad in one issue of each paper: "Did you read it?" By last week the Foundation had a lot of facts to add up. Striking an average for all 73 papers, it found that the following percentage of men & women had read at least one item in the following departments:

Comics 82

Financial News 27

Radio Programs or News 42

Society News 34

Sports 78

Advertising (excluding classified) 80

Women

Editorials 27%
