The first U.S. soldiers wounded in France to get back to the U.S. were Lieut. Colonel Michael C. Murphy and Pfc. James A. Lester. They were flown from Britain in a C-54. ambulance plane, a trip so swift, the Colonel said, that it took half as long as the boat ride from Normandy back to Britain. Last week scores of soldiers who, like them, face long convalescence, had been sped home by the big transports.
