The President last week:

¶ Made ready to play host to General Charles de Gaulle, due in Washington this week.

¶ Hinted lightly that he may soon make a trip to inspect the beachheads in Normandy.

¶ Signed a bill extending wartime price, wage and rent controls for another year. In an accompanying statement he praised Congress for renewing the "hold-the-line" legislation and mildly criticized Congressional action reducing penalties against price-law violators.

¶ Signed two joint resolutions of Congress outlining U.S. policy toward the Philippines. The resolutions provide that the U.S. shall: 1) give the Philippines full independence as quickly as possible...
