Said an editorial in the Middle East edition (Cairo) of the U.S. Army paper Stars & Stripes:

Lewis, in miner's dress, was throwing dirt with a coal shovel upon the freshly marked grave of some kid in North Africa. . . . God knows it expressed the attitude of the overwhelming majority of soldiers in this and any other theater. . . .
