At Darien, Ga., an early morning last week R. J. Anderson, policeman, gruffly questioned two Negroes fussing near the bank. They shot at him, wounded him, ran and hid in the neighboring swamps. Police Chief Robert L. Freeman led a posse to capture the recreants. The two shot from ambush, killed Chief Freeman, wounded two others. The hunters caught George Grant, 40, locked him in jail. Georgia is restive these days. So Col. Roy Neal of the Georgia National Guard hastened to Darien with 25 men and machine guns. Armed townsmen tramped past...
