Business: Broken

For 122 years, only Colgates have directed and only Colgates have managed their perfume, dentrifice and soap company. Precedent, however, was broken last week when the office of vice president, director and general manager of Colgate & Co. was given to Wallace E. McCaw. Senior vice president and chairman of the administrative board of Procter & Gamble, he became last year Colgate's purchasing agent. Gilbert Colgate is chairman of the board, Gilbert Colgate Jr. secretary and vice president in charge of purchasing, Robert Bangs Colgate director and vice president in charge of production and development.
