Foreign News: Scanty Pay

Despatches reported a slight upward adjustment in the scale of pay throughout the French army designed to counterbalance the gradual slump in the purchasing-power of the franc.

From now on, Marshal Foch and the other Marshals of France will receive 75,000 francs ($3,000) a year; French lieutenants will get 6,000 francs ($325) a year; and the ordinary French poilu is to receive one franc a day (about 4ยข).
