Citlaltepetl (Mountain of the Star), a volcano 18,000 feet high and
situated near Orizaba in the State of Vera Cruz, belched forth showers of
sulphur, filling the air and covering the ground for miles around. Snow
completely disappeared from the summit, its place being taken by a
cloud of sulphurous gas. "The nearby dwellers feared an eruption."
