Army & Navy - COMMAND: Five-Star Addition

The Navy wanted it most and the Army was willing. Last week the House passed a bill to create five-star rank for four top officers in each service, sent it to the Senate (which had previously approved the rank for Navymen only).

The bill sets up the ranks of "Fleet Admiral" and "General of the Army," topped only by John J. Pershing's "General of the Armies." Five-star rank on O.D. shoulders (equals British Field Marshal) is scheduled to go to Generals Marshall, Arnold, Eisenhower and MacArthur.
