Ezequiel Padilla finally shook hands with President-elect Miguel Alemán. The fraud charges would be dropped. Even if there had been occasional sleight of hand in the ballot counting, the final result was too conclusive to doubt: Alemán 1,800,829, Padilla 431,847.

President Manuel Avila Camacho, who would step aside for Alemán on Dec. 1, had notably heightened his Government's prestige both at home and abroad by staging the most honest election in Mexico's history.
