New York City's 16 daily-newspaper film critics last week announced their annual awards for cinema excellence. Best picture of 1944: Going My Way. Best actor: Barry Fitzgerald, for his performance in Going My Way. Best director: Leo McCarey, for Going My Way.

Same day, Motion Picture Herald, having completed its annual poll of exhibitors, revealed that the No. i box-office star of the year was Bing Crosby, phenomenally popular in Going My Way.
