Last November Manhattan's tabloids fished up a new Romeo & Juliet tale for their yearning millions. George Lowther 3rd, 30-year-old café socialite, and pretty, 20-year-old Eileen Herrick were in love. Eileen's father disapproved of George, kept Eileen locked up at home. On a writ of habeas corpus George haled Eileen & father into court (TIME, Nov. 27), got legal sanction for his courtship.
