Education: Prophet in His Own Town

Last November, University of Chicago's President Robert Maynard Hutchins predicted in a Saturday Evening Post article that endowed universities, would become poorer, could expect few big gifts in the future. "Universities in the same area," he concluded, "will have to combine." (President Hutchins had already proposed that Chicago and Northwestern University merge.) Events soon showed that U.
