Engineering added a temporary milestone to its faith when one Benjamin B. Odell, a former Governor of New York, drove a rivet. He completed the longest single span in the world. The great span, borne on 18-inch cables, is 1,623 ft. long, and dangles 155 ft. over the Hudson River about six miles north of Peekskill, between Anthony's Nose and Bear Mountain.
