S. tennis fans last week was the announcement that Boston's Longwood Cricket Club had been forced to cancel its tournament, for nearly half a century a major tune-up for the national championships. Reason: aristocratic Longwood can no longer afford to pay America's top-ranking amateurs (most of whom come from California) the "expenses" they demand for appearing in tournaments.
