Lately Archbishop Erkki Kaila, head of beleaguered Finland's National Church, sent a stout S O S to Christendom: "In the name of the Finnish Christendom, I ... dare to turn to you to ask for spiritual and material support for my people and its Church now exposed to persecution. . . . We have full confidence that the Christian Churches will not leave us to fight out this struggle alone. God have mercy on us."
