For the past two years, Tennist Don Budge has been chosen as the No. 1 athlete of the U. S. In 1936 it was Sprinter Jesse Owens; in 1935 it was Boxer Joe Louis. Last week the 60 U. S. sportswriters from whom the Associated Press culls the annual vote chose Iowa Footballer Nile Kinnick as the outstanding athlete of 1939.
