MEXICO: Lettie Weller's Acres

Showing how little he cared for any U. S. property rights, President Lázaro Cardenas last week grabbed 7,230 acres, more than eleven square miles, of pasturage in the State of Coahuila, owned by a San Antonian, Mrs. Lettie W. Weller. He split it into 59 farms for 59 Negro families. The ancestors of these Negroes reputedly went to Mexico in the 1860s as slaves of a band of Kickapoo Indians who trekked across the border from the U. S.
