Leftist Spain's Ministry of National Defense issued one night last week the war's shortest, crispest communique: "No activity on any front." Before 48 hours had passed, however, Generalissimo Francisco Franco's artillery was again pounding away at the Leftist Ebro River salient, his troops at week's end had advanced to take a few important hills.
