EGYPT: Five Cent Shot

Fortnight ago Mustafa El Nahas Pasha, leader of Egypt's greatest party, the Wafd, lost his job as Premier. Last week, however, he had the laugh on his successor, Mahommed Mahmoud Pasha. Nearly three months ago one of Mahmoud's Greenshirts attempted to shoot Nahas in the street. When the young zealot, Abd El Kadar, was arraigned in court, Nahas instead of demanding the extreme penalty contemptuously asked damages of one piastre (5ยข). Lest the Wafd make too much capital of this disdain. Premier Mahmoud's Government hastily held Abd El Kadar for criminal trial.
