Transport: Extraordinary Three

The National Safety Council last week presented awards to three U. S. airlines with extraordinarily safe records:

Eastern Air Lines, for "never having had a passenger fatality during its entire operating history, 1930-36, with an accumulation of 141,794,894 passenger-miles."

Northwest Airlines, for "never having had a passenger fatality during its entire operating history, 1927-36, with an accumulation of 48,768,411 passenger-miles."

Pennsylvania Central Airlines, for having had "neither a passenger nor a crew fatality during its recorded period of operation, 1930-36, with an accumulation of 36,177,210 passenger-miles and 8,951,377 miles flown."
