Like Bermuda, Mackinac Island, charming summer resort at the northwest end of Lake Huron, prohibits automobiles. Last week. Mackinac relaxed its rule for the first time, let one automobile ashore to carry a crippled man to the ferry. Back to the mainland with him went the car.

Other islands banning automobiles: Sark in the English Channel, Venice.
