Art: Popular van Gogh

The largest exhibition of the works of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) ever held in the U. S. ended its Manhattan showing last week, packed up for a road show that will include Philadelphia. Boston, Cleveland and San Francisco (TIME, Oct. 28). Final figures disclosed that it was the most popular exhibit that the Museum of Modern Art has had in all its six years. Before the doors closed last week. 123,339 people had gaped at van Gogh's brilliant, swirling canvases.
