¶In Newport, N. H., twelve skiers jumped on pine needles instead of snow. One Jack Holden of Putney, Vt. made the best jump—31 feet.

¶In Tokyo's Meiji Shrine Pool, under the eyes of Princess Takamatsu, Princes Takamatsu and Sumi, Japanese Swimmer Hiroshi Negami finished an 800-metre free-style race in 10:02.4, a world's record, while his team was beating a touring team of five U. S. champions, 36-to-27.
