But not in Philadelphia. There, balloting to choose a local figure to debate with Judge Lindsey, 5,000 people overwhelmingly picked Rev. Dr. Robert Bruce Whyte, pastor of Philadelphia's biggest church, First Presbyterian. After the debate, the Philadelphians owlishly upheld their choice, handed Ben Lindsey the first defeat he ever experienced.
