When Baritone John Charles Thomas skipped a concert in Dallas, Tex., rather than sacrifice his fee, hot arguments arose all over the U. S. concerning an artist's unwritten obligations (TIME, Jan. 22). Texans called Thomas a poor sport, sympathized with Manager Harriet Bacon MacDonald who had been unable to meet her contract.
