¶The Chinese Eastern Railway, vital link in the Trans-Siberian route between China and Europe, was cut last week 65 miles south of Harbin, Manchuria by 3,000 Chinese soldiers under General Li Hai-tsing. Ripping up the railway tracks, tearing down telegraph wires the Chinese waited until a train from Harbin chuffed into their clutches. They looted and dispersed before Japanese troops rushed on the scene. Other Chinese troops defied Japanese authority in Manchuria by setting three minor railway stations afire and gutting the city of Suifenho (reported loss: $64,000,000).
