To the tune of thousands of creaking necks, the Los Angeles soared over curious Manhattan, her third trip to the city but the premier under her new skipper, Lieutenant Commander Charles E. Rosendahl, one of the Navy's most experienced dirigible pilots. Pressing her untremulous way through the foggy May firmament, the silver bulk appeared at times to be perilously near the slim shafts of downtown skyscrapers. Assembled at their posts were 14 survivors of last summer's Shenandoah disaster. Not least among these was the stern-visaged commander. He succeeds Captain George W. Steele Jr., who returns to the more substantial water.
