(Went to Senate.) ¶ Passed a Deficiency Appropriation Bill carrying among other items, $57,600 for an investigation of diseases communicable through oysters and other shellfish and $125,000 to pay informers who gave tips to Customs men which enable them to catch smugglers of jewelry and other valuables.* An amendment was attached on the floor to increase the salary of the President's Secretary from $7,500 to $10,000.
