TURKEY: Whispering Teachers

To Dictator Mustafa Kemal's boundless disgust last week, he proved to have been right in his hunch that most Istanbul high-school students would flunk if their helpful teachers were kept out of examination rooms. When this precaution was taken, 75% of the students flunked, created a situation so tense that the Ministry of Education announced fresh examinations for students who failed, added that this time their teachers will be present. After that drastic reforms will be enforced.
