Art: Blumenthal Treasures

Because he has been one of its trustees since 1909, because he has served on its executive committee since 1910, because he gave it $1,000,000 cash in 1928, George Blumenthal, retired senior partner of the firm of Lazard Frères, was last week elected seventh president of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. He succeeds the late Furniture Tycoon William Sloane Coffin (TIME, Dec. 25).
