Last May 84-year-old Charles Spalding Thomas, onetime (1899-1901; Governor of Colorado, onetime (1913-21) U. S. Senator, defied the Attorney General to take $120 worth of gold he was holding despite the President's anti-hoarding order (TiME, May 15).
