Medicine: Babies' Health

A U. S. infant mortality rate half that of 20 years ago was the subject of a proud announcement by the American Child Health Association last week. Lowest on record, the death rate in 1932 was 56.8 per 1,000 babies under one year old. Of the ten healthiest states, all Western except Connecticut, Oregon was first with 41.5. Chicago topped the large-city honor list with only 49 dead babies per 1,000.
