Animals: Suffocated Fish

One day three weeks ago Tanker TN-78, bearing a cargo of molasses, sank in the Mohawk River near Little Falls, N. Y. Few days later the river began to grow white with the bellies of thousands of dead perch, dead carp, dead whitefish. The Conservation Department reported last week that the molasses had glued up the gills through which the perch, carp and whitefish breathed.
