With a shrug of resignation the dispatcher at Le Bourget airdrome switched off the floodlights which had blazed through the night. From Tempelhof weary newsmen dragged themselves off to bed. At Croydon the telephone operator made a last effort to raise remote stations, silent because of Whitsunday. At Floyd Bennett Field, New York, pessimism deepened to despair.
