The House: ¶ Passed (249-to-118) a $543,000.000 Independent Offices appropriation bill; sent it to the Senate. A substitute for the measure vetoed March 4 by President Hoover, the bill lopped $451,000,000 off veterans' payments and authorized the President to cancel Government contracts, furlough Army officers on half-pay, retire Federal employes after 30 years civil service and cut Army & Navy flying pay.

¶Defeated (227-to-115) a motion to consider a resolution by New York's Sirovich for an investigation of the cinema industry. The idea was howled down as "a joy ride to Hollywood...
