Education: McCormick on Reds

Red-baiting Col. Robert Rutherford McCormick, publisher of the Chicago Tribune, addressed the Advertising Club of New York last week on a subject of much concern to Red-baiters—radicalism in the colleges. He, a Yaleman, said that "pink doctrines" originate in eastern seaboard institutions. Ignoring the paradox, he also said that the "excessive extravagance" of U. S. school and college buildings is "merely imitated after the baronial and palatial halls of Harvard and Yale." Later: "Perhaps I should have included Princeton." Next day Col. McCormick was neatly pinked by genial Dean Christian Gauss...
