The State of New York, overstocked with doctors, last year vexed several European nations by refusing to consider for examination, let alone licensing to practice, graduates of certain foreign medical schools (TIME, Sept. 26). French medicine was particularly annoyed, and last week retaliated with a new French law. Henceforth every doctor or dentist practicing in France must have a French degree and be a French citizen.
