The House:

¶ Passed the $1,002,800,000 Independent Offices Appropriation bill; sent it to the Senate. Undebated and untouched was the item of $966,838,634 for veterans compensation and pensions, the amount recommended in the President's budget.* Despite complaints that the "Power Trust" was trying to stifle the Government's investigation of its activities, the House refused (181-to-165) to increase the Federal Trade Commission's allowance from $510,000 to $820,000.

¶ Passed the $16,588,878 Legislative Appropriation bill; sent it to the Senate. A proposal to cut Representatives' salaries from $10,000 to $7,500 was...
