CUBA: Destroyed

In Havana stalwart Cuban soldiers seized and impounded copies of the New York Times, Herald Tribune and Sun. Copies of TIME were seized and destroyed. All the offending publications had described recent, terroristic acts by the Government of Cuban President Machado (TIME, Jan. 16).

Before Congress could act Cuban Secretary of State Orestes Ferrara hastily summoned Havana correspondents, excitedly shouted "All a mistake! All a mistake! Tomorrow Colonel Guerrero will issue an order that United States newspapers and magazines are not to be interfered with."
