POLITICAL NOTES: Campaign Costs

Last week both national committees reported to Congress the costs of their Presidential campaign. To win, the Democrats spent $1,638,177.58 and wound up with an indicated deficit of $769,055. To lose, the Republicans spent $2,670,652.69. Their indicated deficit was $239,540. Henry Ford's $25.000 was the largest single Republican contribution. Bernard Mannes Baruch gave the Democrats a total of $53,000.
